Q1: You've been stranded on a desert island with only one standard-size travel suitcase. If you could only have 3 items in that suitcase, what would you want those items to be and why?
A clean source of water would be one of the most important things. [He's thinking more about what he needs to help him and whoever he possibly is with to survive and find a way off the island.] Some sort of water purifier would be be the first thing thing. [Can he use any sort of magecraft?] We can't use magecraft, can we? But I can't use my skills to purify water or create food, and I don't know any healing magic either. [That makes him realize something that could help with any possible injuries or basic sicknesses.] A basic first aid kit should cover most possible injuries. [Now for the last item. He has to pick survivability versus a way to alert a passing ship or plane.] A flare could be useful to attract the attention of anything that goes by the island. [But that's all it could be mostly used for. Maybe if someone got lost, it could help with finding each other.] A knife or blade would be useful, too. [Such things as being able to create tools, hunt, create shelter, and probably more.] I think a machete would be more useful in the long run just in case we're not rescued right away so that'll be my third item.
Q2: Tell us about a defining event in your life that you think influenced who you are today.
[He knows the most defining moment of his life right away. Thinking about it still brings up a discomfort in him as he remembers all the people who died around him and the greats flames. He remembers being a little kid and seeing his adoptive father's face, a face of pure joy and relief.]
It's when my father found me and rescued me. [He remembers his adoptive father's voice, the sadness but joy in it.] I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for him. [Because so many others died while he got the chance to live and start a new life.] That's why I want to protect people, help them, to be a hero just like him.
Q3: What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Family... [Well, his adoptive father has passed away. He really doesn't have any family left by Japanese standards as they aren't in the registry.] Taiga-nee is always over at my place and her family's helped me out since my father passed away. [He's known her ever since he was adopted and they spent a lot of time together. Their relationship is the closest thing to a little brother and big sister relationship.] Sakura comes over a lot. Over time I got used to her spending meals with us. She has her own family, though. [He's not sure that's family like, but they did spend a lot of time together. Without those two there, the Emiya residence would just be him. Yet things have gotten much more livelier since the Holy Grail War. Saber and Tohsaka have become very important to him. People that are important to him, that's enough to mean family for him.] I was Saber's master, but more than that, she's someone that's changed my life forever. She may not be here anymore, but I won't forget her and everything she's done. [She's helped him grow as not only a fighter, but as a person. The same goes for another person who's also especially important to him.] Then there's Tohsaka. [Now that he thinks about it, they have some similarities when it comes to their current family situations, but unlike him, Tohsaka didn't have someone like Taiga or Sakura.] Tohsaka's someone I can't imagine not in my life. I want to make her happy, to have her not feel lonely ever again. [And that's enough for her to be considered family to him.] Wherever our futures go, we'll support each other.
Q4: Tell me about a time you were involved in a personal conflict (not a physical fight). What would you do differently to resolve it?
[Not a physical fight, huh? Well, that makes things easier but difficult to explain at the same time.] I don't think I would redo or change anything. [After all, to him, if he would change things or redo something, that means ignoring the pain, sacrifice, and everything with that event.] If I were to redo something, that'd means I'd regret what I did, and that's not something I want to do.
[That doesn't mean he's not willing to learn from his experiences, and there are plenty of those.] If you're asking if I learned from my experiences and if I would handle things different in the future based on that, maybe. [Archer comes to his mind, his future self.] Yet if I did things for a reason, based on what I believe is right and just, then even if the outcome wasn't easy, I wouldn't change that. [Archer said his ideals are impossible to obtain, but even then, he's stubborn in wanting to at least follow them.] I'd have to live with the consequences of my choices and actions.
Q5: Do you have any regrets? If so, what are the biggest ones? If not, what is something you wish you had gotten to do back home?
I don't have one. [Tohsaka could probably list dozens of things, but his perspective is quite different.] I may get disappointed in myself and make mistakes, but I don't want to live a life thinking about regrets or what I could've done different. Finding meaning in things that happen and being guided by that, I rather live like that than. [If he were to regret, that would be ignoring the pain, sacrifice, and experiences others have been there to get him to this point.]
